Sandun Gamage
Professional Photographer

I am a photographer and a feature writer who absolutely loves his job and everything that comes with it. I appreciate the raw reality of everyday life, the fleeting beauty of those in-between moments, and I take every picture with that in mind. This is a definitive biography of myself that absorbs the exposition that links the extraordinary arc of my life to the iconic photographs that I have taken throughout my life.
I am a visionary individual who has revolutionized photography in Sri Lanka from lifestyle to travel, architecture, and fashion photography. I have worked over the years to capture brilliant portraits that have immeasurably shaped my photography skills in these diverse spheres.

My inspiration in photography has always come from the people and history of Sri Lanka. When I began with photography, I would walk in the streets, observe people capture their best angles before even they notice. That time I didn’t know it was called street photography. Over time, I’ve excelled through different corners of photography from fashion, travel, to celebrity portraits and also learned more about the unique neighborhoods and incredible architecture of Sri Lanka, and just went exploring as much as I possibly could. Since my photography collections speak more about the Sri Lankan culture and history I was known as an unofficial travel promoter for the country.

Now my work has been split between running a PR company, a portrait photography business working with reputed companies, and being an occasional feature writer for the paper, organizing photography workshops for fresh photographers from all over the country, and providing them with insights to capture the best of Sri Lanka. My knowledge about media advertising has broadened.

In 1996, I’ve joined the Sunday Lankadeepa newspaper as a photographer and a feature writer. Nearly 25 years of exposure in the journalism and photography fields have allowed me to gain more experience with businesses of all sizes and types around Sri Lanka.

My photos have made it to the cover page of the Sandella tabloid in the Sunday Lankadeepa newspaper and it was published weekly. That has risen my popularity significantly to outstand as a unique photographer among others.

“A picture is worth a thousand words.” That was my motto as a photojournalist. I have successfully displayed my work through galleries through the years.

I take photographs to define my experiences, to capture these moments, and share the earth’s most extraordinary places with people, aspiring travelers, and wilderness trekkers that hope to travel one day. Keeping that intention in mind I have traveled to countries like UAE, Canada, Japan, Thailand, Australia, Italy, the USA, and China to capture the uniqueness of each country through my lens, and with that experience, I have excelled in the fields of photography with the knowledge I gain by traveling around the globe.
